Alice lives and works in Kabale as a TBA, traditional birth attendant; she was introduced and skilled by her grandmother using traditional medicine to treat pregnant women and new born babies.
Today is becoming more and more difficult to collect traditional medicine, so she needs to go far from Kabale walking around the bush looking for leaves and roots; she started planting trees nearest places so to collect easier herbs she uses for her patients.
Alice receives mothers from all Uganda, treating them with herbs to prevent different diseases, infections and deformations; natural medicines are used also to prevent pelvic bones pain during delivery and to induce labors as well.
Many expectant mothers choose to give birth away from hospital, with traditional birth attendants or in their homes, owing to lack of many to pay health facilities fees, because they live far from hospitals and health centers so they are not able to reach facilities in time to deliver, but also because sometime they prefer familiar and more kind treatment they can receive by TBAs.
