Young men doing money collections and Djing at Kamukunji grounds in Kibera. The money is meant for the burial ceremony for Simon Nga'nga'a aliased as STINGER.
As young men from Kibera, when someone has been murdered we hold it, we try not to make it affect us. In cases where someone has been killed by the police, we even try not to associate with the person because we don't want to be seen as part of their close circles. This photo series explores the ripple effect of the death of a young man by accident ,and who was loved by his friends and the community at large. The celebration of his life took a week before he was buried. I wanted to capture the freedom of how young men were going to respond to this; letting their anger and frustrations out. It was a show of togetherness, intimacy and protection like I've not seen among the young men.
