Typical Type 1
On May 1st, 15 years ago, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. At 10 years old I was scared and didn’t know how I was gonna live with it, and now being a diabetic is second nature, just another thing to do in the day. And although it is most of the time frustrating, annoying, and emotionally draining to deal with constantly; being a diabetic is a part of me. Type 1 diabetes shows up in every aspect of my daily living, whether I want it to or not. And I have to work with it, whether I like it or not. Because managing diabetes is what keeps me alive. This little film is a depiction of what a typical day looks like for me: alarms, needles, numbers, vials, devices, etc.
