In the autonomous republic of Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan) the road stops at Moynaq and goes no over. Here, until a few decades ago, there was one of the largest salt lakes in the world: the Aral Sea.

This small village, once an active fishing center, is the theater of the biggest environmental disaster caused by man. In fifty years, the withdrawal of almost 90% of the waters of Aral has transformed it into a town without identity and future. Children are told of when fishing boats were coming to the port and they dream that sooner or later the water will return. Abay instead destroys the fish factory in which he has worked for 25 years. For now the Aral is an infinite expanse of sand and salt to which snow is added in winter.
