SERENE and beautiful images taken by women around the world have won the top prizes in an international photo contest.

Judges of the All About Photo The Mind's Eye Awards 2020 admit they were drawn to the more soothing pictures in these unsettling times.

A panel of seven experts picked their favourites from thousands of high-calibre entries from all over the world.
The winner and Photographer of the Year 2020 is Monica Denevan of the USA with her striking image of a youth on a boat crossing a river in Burma.
Second was Italian Gabriele Galimberti for his picture of a gun owner in front of her house in America.
His picture was the exception, as four of the top five places went to black and white pictures taken by women.

The panel said they were drawn towards serene imagery rather than some of the more aggressive images that are often successful in photographic competitions.
