Ashmita Sharma, Program Officer for Integrity Icon at Accountability Lab Nepal, works from her family's home in Kathmandu after receiving direction from the Accountability Lab Global team. This direction came 4 days before the government mandated stay at home order due to COVID19.
Tourists wait outside the packed Qatar Airways office in Kathmandu on March 20, 2020. At this time, no flights are available and travelers are encouraged to get on standby at the airport. Nepal woke up to an increased travel advisory beckoning tourists, travelers and workers worldwide to either immediately return home or prepare to shelter in place. The country immediately cancelled all incoming flights to in an effort to prevent COVID19 spreading across Kathmandu and beyond. This action stranded millions of Nepali migrant workers abroad, now without work and in grave danger of contracting COVID19.
