Caskets is a portrait series that I completed on December 23rd, 2015. I spent nearly 8 months photographing the cycling community in and around Los Angeles, CA. A cyclist myself, I quickly realized the significance of the cycling cap to other cyclists. They may represent a race that they did, a ride to fight to AIDS, or simply a friend's cycling apparel brand but each cap tells a different story and represents that cyclist in a very unique way. With this portrait series, I hoped to record the personalities of different cyclists and their chosen favorite caps in a way that illustrates to outsiders the significance of them. They are not just hats and this is not just fashion - this is a way for cyclists to represent their beliefs, ideas and what is truly important to them.
