In my long-term project I dealt with different queer realities since the Russian invasion in Ukraine. In my photos I show not only the challenges of young people, but also the empowering moments. From everyday life in a country at war, birthday celebrations in the West to the realities of life for family members near the front in the south of the country. The work aims to not only show the typical photos that dominate during war-times. In the interviews I was able to conduct, people talk about their lives, which have changed completely since the beginning of the war of aggression. The texts are juxtaposed with the portraits in the exhibition.
I will use my time at the residency to continue working on the project. I am very grateful that I have the opportunity to work on intensive stories for so long. But I also owe it to the great colleagues who have always supported me. - Thank you!
The photographs will be on display in HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts in Dresden, from March 18th to May 7th.
Congratulations to the other great photographers who have been awarded. In the finalist exhibition of the Portraits Hellerau Photography Award 32 photographers from 16 countries exhibit their projects. Among them are 18 women!
