Since February 1, the La Pampilla Refinery has stopped its hydrocarbon loading and unloading activities. The measure, ordered by the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA), will be maintained until the company guarantees that there is no risk of new spills on the Peruvian coast. However, the ecological disaster —since its origin— shows fissures in the environmental supervision and control of the hydrocarbon sector as well as lack of coordination in the sectors involved in dealing with the spill.
