Melbourne Plaza, completed in 1972 and initially designed by architect A.A. Lee from the Eric Cumine firm for use as a nightclub, underwent a transformation into a shopping mall. The building boasts a complex exterior design with intersecting three-dimensional triangles. In the original plan, windows occupied only one side of the triangle to minimize direct sunlight in offices. However, the owner later adjusted the design to enhance natural lighting, resulting in windows spanning both sides of the triangle.

In the midst of modern constructions and shopping arcades scattered throughout the town, historic buildings serve as poignant reminders that connect us to the past. Within this plaza, the majority of shops have roots dating back to the 70s, offering old-fashioned dresses and styles that stand in stark contrast to contemporary standards. Yet, the enduring allure of these establishments sees their charm maturing over time. Walking into the building evokes a sense of entering a time machine, preserving numerous elements from the original design. Despite facing closures and vacancies, the remaining businesses are resolute in their commitment to preserving the essence and spirit of old Hong Kong.
