On the 34th anniversary of the tragic Tiananmen Square massacre, Hong Kong witnessed a stark contrast of events. As protesters trying to gather to honor the memory of the victims and advocate for freedom and justice, the Hong Kong police responded with a crackdown, detaining and arresting individuals seeking to exercise their rights. Meanwhile, in a contrasting scene, 26 pro-Beijing groups organized a three-day carnival at Victoria Park, a place traditionally used by Hong Kongers to mourn the victims of China's Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. These divergent events underscore the deep divisions and conflicting narratives surrounding the pursuit of democracy and remembrance in Hong Kong.
