ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
The Eye Workshop Series was created by Donna Ferrato and Tomeu Coll in 2018, just after finishing the trilogy Erotic Eye which was a guided tour through the world of eroticism, symbols, and fantasies. At its heart is the belief that we are born to love and be loved, and that, in the words of the late great Czech photographer Miroslav Tichý, “All of society is based on sexuality.” In the Sacred Eye Workshops, our photographer will inmerse themselves into women lives to tell from the very first hand, their stories.
Donna Ferrato is a documentary photographer raised in Lorain, Ohio. She has published four books including “Living with the Enemy” that sold over 40,000 copies, and as well as participating in over 500 one-woman shows in the U.S. and around the world. Ferrato has received numerous awards, including the W. Eugene Smith Grant (1986), the Robert F. Kennedy Award for Humanistic Photography (1987), the International Women in Media Courage in Journalism Award (1996), and the LOOK3 Insightful Artist of the Year (2013), and she has worked for every major US media outlet. In November 2016, Ferrato's photograph of a man hitting his wife was named by TIME as one of the "100 Most Influential Images of All Time." She lives in Tribeca, New York, where she has been documenting her transforming neighborhood.
Tomeu Coll was born in 1981 in Mallorca, Spain. He has been the recipient of several photojournalism and documentary photography awards, including the Illes Balears Photojournalism Award for two consecutive years. He was featured as an Emerging Photographer by Smithsonian Magazine for his ongoing project “Badlands,” and has had solo shows at Circulations Photo Festival in Paris, Winter Festival of Sarajevo, curated by Ellen James, and at La Nacional Gallery in New York. Coll currently shoots for Stern, Der Spiegel, L'Illustre, Leica Fotografie internationa LFI, Vanguardia, and other international publications.
