Community Options: Extraordinary Measures
I have an older brother with Down Syndrome and it has been important to me throughout my career to give back to the community of disability because they have given so much to my family and my brother.Several years ago I connected with Community Options, a nonprofit that helps take severely intellectually disabled out of state institutions and find both housing and employment. They provide structured community as well as individualized care for specific medical needs.This past year I traveled nationwide to photograph both the individuals supported by Community Options, but also the caretakers who went to extraordinary measures to keep themselves and the community safe from Covid-19. I documented the bond and that has grown between all the people in this beautiful organization.
