-West Bank- `Road leading to Mar Saba monastery, outside Bethlehem in Palestine´ ( June 18 )
Lola and I rent a car, a Palestinian one with white plates, downtown in the city of Bethlehem. We wanted to take a break and travel around the West Bank. After spending an hour trying to get out of the city we managed to get close to Beit Sahur and then we found our road. The heat was crazy, we were melting inside the car, stepping out at this point was not an option, not even one shadow in miles around, and this was during the month of Ramadan, so no smokes or water.
The road was quiet, time was slow, but we had no hurry Later that day we got to stop by the Israeli military army at the checkpoint. Hold and interrogated for hours. Who are you? Why are you here? How do you know each other? Why are you driving a Palestinian car?
-California- `Pacific Coast Highway 1´ ( December 17 )
We left Mount Shasta a few days before i took this picture, we were sleeping facing the volcano surrounded by snow. Next day , the sea and this amazing sun shining up on our heads.
Finally free after spending 3 months working into the farms, crazy days...
We reach the coast at night, after crossing the mountains into the darkness.... we finally saw it, the Pacific...
I drive !! I told Daniella, i needed to, i wanted to, something was pushing me to do it, i wanted so bad to drive in that road
I only drove once in my life before, it was in Chicago a year earlier.. I wanted to feel like Batman driving through Gotham ....but that's another story.
Daniella didn't argued, gave me the keys and that's it.. i was having my first experience driving in one of the most beautiful roads i've ever seen.
Sleeping in the Vista Points..drinking red wine...smoking until the sunrise...
-North California- `Trinity river´ ( September 17 )
Alex woke me up at 5 a.m. We took his boat into the Trinity River, he wanted to teach me how to fish. I told him i'm vegetarian but anyway i felt like it could be a nice experience after all, and i turned out to be an amazing day.
The sun was rising and the river really quiet, we could only heard the sound of the oars as we made our way between the mountains
The same river where back in the days natives from the Hupa and Yurok tribes use to fish salmon. I was fantasizing how it would be to live up on that hills, run into the river, had such patience and admiration for the land. I always admire those human beings.
Lucky for me, what i didn't know at that time is that i was going to spend the next two months living in the native reservation among them.
-USA- `Somewhere between Chicago and NYC´ ( December 16 ) I can't remember exactly where it was..I took the picture with a disposable camera. I was on the train for a 27 hours trip, but at that point that was nothing after all what happened.
It started a few weeks before.
I left Nevada to reach North Dakota, to photograph the uprising of the native tribes in Standing Rock, against the construction of the pipeline in their land. It was freezing, I've never had so much cold, it was around -20 ºC..who knows in fahrenheit...
A very unique moment to live that's for sure, mad and beauty decided to meet in the same place at the same time..and i felt the consequences...
All my stuff got stolen..passport, money, cameras, socks ...
...who cares.. when you decide to play you can't turn yourself back
