For the elderly living in care homes, or in their own homes all alone, life is both especially calm and chaotic. Archaic Indian culture has always endorsed parents to plan their final years with their families only. There are millions of such elderly. They have never planned to breathe their last when their children are not around. Void of respect and values that they expect from children at this age, impacts their self-esteem and identity. Indian families have been changing significantly over the past few decades. Large, joint families have increasingly given way to smaller, nuclear ones; But why? This project aims to carry out a thorough study on cultural alienation, and consequently, the interactions and place of the elderly in contemporary Indian society.
