Prashant Nakwe is a Mumbai-based freelance photojournalist who has over 20 years of experience covering stories ranging from wars and climate change to gender equality, health and education. He has worked with top national media organisations in India including Mid-Day, The Times of India, and The Hindu.
He specialises in telling stories through the human lens, be it his work in Iraq, post-US war, or from the India-Pakistan border, his pictures from both capturing the implication of strained international relations on people.
A passionate photojournalist who navigated family resistance to pursue a career unfamiliar to them, he did not let his job loss during the pandemic affect his commitment to telling stories as he took the time to get well versed with different multimedia formats for visual storytelling.
A Mumbai University graduate, Prashant began his career as a freelancer, hoping to join the league of photographers whose pictures he had grown up seeing in newspapers. He went on to become the photo editor for national dailies.
When not working on any story or an assignment, Prashant likes to trek and also enjoys Indian classical music. He is learning Spanish, can speak English, Hindi and Marathi
