Decisive Moment. II
Decisive Moment. Pandemic Art.
Covid-19 has affected and will affect the entire planet for a long time. It has altered our way of life at all levels: personal, social, economic, cultural. Global warming, climate change and all the environmental problems are no longer urgent problems but present in our daily lives.
The "Decisive Moment" project, initiated by the artist in 2019, reflects aloud on inaction in the fight against climate change, the pandemic, and the future we want for our planet.
In this work those disturbing and contradictory exterior landscapes caused by our current situation with respect to the environment and the pandemic become interior landscapes, emotional experiences captured through photography.
The collective inability to understand the imbalance between progress and the natural world confronts society with increasingly complex and demanding global challenges. Environmental problems, the loss of biodiversity, global warming, climate change, even growing inequality, moral indifference, and the pandemic itself, possibly related to the aforementioned problems, are issues that mark the present and that the artist addresses with minimalist images and loaded with powerfully and direct messages.
Several of the works has been prepared in different periods of lockdown and the images reflect the anxiety and concern generated by the different news about the evolution of the pandemic.
Each of the images explores some of the implications provoked, capturing our time in a shocking, conceptual, and poetic way. Issues such as our world hanging by a thread about to break, the problems of the pandemic, the world with a mask, lockdowns, the signs we ignore from our nature, the need for cooling of the planet, deforestation and crimes against nature, the need for balance between progress and the natural world and many other interpretations have a place in the images that make up the project.
The name of the project itself is a conscious and metaphorical allusion to the famous photographic concept of Henry Cartier Bresson founder of Magnum Photos. Bresson proponed the conscious waiting to catch that decisive moment. In the current situation we cannot wait, we are, without a doubt, at a decisive moment for our planet.
The crisis we are going through is a great opportunity to think together and try to find the harmony that will allow us the prosperity of humanity and nature, together.
The work aims to contribute a grain of sand to this reflection.
