The International Environmental Photography Lab - Jordi Jon Portfolio
Focused on portraying the stories of the environment, Jordi Jon Pardo is a journalist and documentary photographer based in Barcelona. He's one of the founders of MÓN, an environmental journalism organization. His interest in the documentary image started while studying photojournalism in the university, where he covered human, psychological and finally climate stories. Jordi Jon is a National Geographic Explorer Grantee during 2021. His images, such as the works on the desertification of Spain or the oil crisis in Albania, have been exhibited in different galleries in Spain, Switzerland, United States, Finland, Germany, India or Bangladesh.
Motivation:
Personally, I'm interested in climate change stories. At the moment, I'm developing 'Árida', a documentary photography and journalism project focused on the Spanish lands currently at risk of desertification. 80% of the state’s territory is prone to desertification during the 21st century. Most affected will be the regions of Alicante, Murcia, Almeria, Aragon and their respective mountain ranges, according to investigations led by the Spanish Environmental Ministry in the past decade.
This mentoring program is a very good opportunity to dedicate more time to research, methodology and fieldwork, not just for 'Árida', but related to the importance of environmental documentary photography.
