For the annual Carnival celebration in Montfoort, a small town in the Netherlands, two men and a woman are dressed as Pinoccio, the fictional character and the protagonist of the children's novel The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883) by Italian writer Carlo Collodi. Pinocchio was carved by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a Tuscan village. He is created as a wooden puppet, but he dreams of becoming a real boy. He is known for his long nose, which grows when he lies. The three Dutch carry that long nose on a piece of string around their neck and they can attach their hands and arms to strings as well, pretending to be marionettes.
