Patricia, a seven-year-old pig who has resided in the Gaia Sanctuary since she was a young child, is having her ulcers healed by Laia, a Gaia worker. Because of the immobility in his back legs, he has just developed ulcers. Her mother collapsed and crushed Patricia's legs when she was a little child, just after her birth. Due to their cramped living conditions in cages, these cases are expected in farm pigs.

Ciara was discovered abandoned with a fractured right leg in a roadside ditch not far from Roquetes, Tarragona. After receiving the warning, the Associació Engrescats de les Terres de l'Ebre contacted the police to handle the situation. The police took Ciara to a waste dump's door rather than a veterinarian, the group claims. She was left behind once more. The association got in touch with the sanctuary because they believed it could live there safely and comfortably. Ciara is now properly healing with her leg in a cast.

Paolo was born in Asturias with a stump in his left hand as a result of a deformity. Daily treatments were necessary for the injury, and it is because of them that the stump is recovering. Thanks to this new prosthetic, he can now walk nearly normally. He lives with Naím, a very naughty teenager.

"Coexist" was made in December 2022 at the Gaia Sanctuary Foundation in the mountains of Camprodon, Catalonia, Spain.
Gaia is a vegan organisation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating farm animals who have fallen victim to farming abuse, exploitation, or abandonment. Only two sanctuaries, and none for farm animals, existed in Spain when it was founded. Coque, a co-founder of the sanctuary, explains, "They are the animals that no one ever helps. They are considered for their consumption. They are the latest of the latest".

This project won the XIV Carles Rahola Award and the XXI Young Photographers of Catalonia Award.
