Gabriella N. Báez is a visual artist and documentary storyteller from Puerto Rico whose work explores mental health, grief, the body, and the queer community. I had the opportunity to connect with Gabriella, while they were traveling in Puerto Rico to learn more about their work and vision. In this interview, Báez discusses their journey into documentary photography, their ongoing project ojala nos encontremos en el mar or hopefully, we'll meet at sea, about grieving their father's death in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, the impact they hope to create through their work, challenges they face in the industry, career tips, strategies for artistic success, and their openness to new ideas and experiments in their upcoming projects.
