Deirdre Brennan

Deirdre Brennan is a Dublin based documentary photographer and photo journalist. She holds a Bachelor in Fine Art Sculpture from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland. Shortly after graduation Deirdre moved to New York City where she worked as a contract photographer with The New York Times for 7 years.
Deirdre was also accepted into the Redux Picture Agency in New York the same week she began to work for the New York Times. Redux syndicates her stories throughout America and worldwide appearing in titles such as American Photography, Mother Jones, Double Take, The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, The London Sunday Times, Marie Claire, Paris Match and Stern to name a few.
Deirdre was also nominated for The World Press Photo Master Class and New York Photo Awards. Deirdre was named one of “Ten Women Who Wrote History With Their Camera” as part of the 20th Anniversary of the VISA pour l’Image International Festival of Photojournalism.
Since her return Deirdre has been working on an long term documentary photographic project entitled "Following Ulysses" using the structure of James Joyce's novel to explore the themes of class, culture, race and social struggle in modern Dublin. Deirdre is currently in negotiations with a publisher with a view to publishing the book by 2020. Photographs from the project have been featured in Time Magazine, American Photography, The Palm Springs Photo Festival, Marie Claire, The Economist and one image was used for the cover of the French edition of Sebastian Barry’s “The Secret Scriptures”
Deirdre continues to be a member of Redux Pictures and covers Ireland for Redux producing stories for publications such as The New York Times, VICE, Sports Illustrated, Der Spiegel and The Hollywood Reporter.
