In the heart of Basilicata, the Satriano Carnival evokes ancient traditions related to tree worship and the relationship between humans and nature. This event is highlighted by the “Rumiti," tree-men covered in ivy, living symbols of a deep connection with the forest. These beings, once wandering the village to bless homes, have been revived thanks to the enthusiasm of the young generations. The "walking forest," with 131 Rumiti, one for each municipality in the region, becomes an expression of an ecological carnival, celebrating nature and its preservation. This event, besides reinforcing local identity, serves as a junction between past and present where tradition and environmental awareness blend, showing how popular celebrations can contribute to the conservation of natural heritage.
