The Bible Belt is an informal region in the southeastern and south-central United States in which socially conservative evangelical Protestantism plays a strong role in society and politics.
Wilson is a small town, everything closes quite early and the downtown area has the mysterious charm of an abandoned beauty, with all its grand empty houses. Churches, however, are never empty. In fact Wilson counts more churches than grocery stores, about 80 throughout the city, most of them around the main street. Churches are strongly alive and are central to the life and spirit of the communities.

Rosa is a traditional indigenous healer from Tehuacan.
The curanderas, they’re often women of special competences, have to look at their patient as an all-encompassing physical, spiritual, and emotional level. They heal when the illness is provoked by a trauma or a displeasure or has even supernatural origins.
Rosa uses Temazcal, a typical sweat lodges in a circular structure which originated with pre-Hispanic Indigenous peoples from the Nahuatl word. It’s a curative ceremony thought to purify both body and spirit and to heal sickness.
Rosa is also an activist for indigenous rights and asks her patients to reconnect with their lost traditions and the power of nature.

Secondo un report del 2019 redatto dalla #BancaMondiale, il 28% del Pil del #Nepal proviene dalle rimesse di lavoratori emigrati all’estero, che ogni anno mandano in patria oltre 8 miliardi di dollari. Sempre secondo i dati della Banca Mondiale, circa il 28% della forza lavoro nepalese è attualmente all’estero e ogni anno partono dal paese tra le 350mila e le 400mila persone.
La tendenza a emigrare – prevalentemente maschile - si sta diffondendo in particolare tra le popolazioni delle zone collinari, tipicamente dedite all’ #agricoltura. Un tempo gli uomini di queste aree partivano per cercare lavoro a Kathmandu, nella regione meridionale del Terai e in India; oggi, soprattutto i giovani, emigrano sempre più verso il Golfo Persico, nel Sudest Asiatico o in Asia orientale.
Anche il #cambiamentoclimatico contribuisce a spingere i contadini a cercare fonti di guadagno altrove. A causa delle frequenti siccità e delle nuove specie infestanti che si stanno diffondendo, l’agricoltura diventa infatti un’attività sempre più faticosa e poco produttiva. Gli uomini partono, in cerca di maggiori guadagni all’estero, lasciando indietro le #donne, che si trovano così a farsi carico da sole di tutto il lavoro nei campi e della gestione della famiglia.
