When remnants of Tropical Storm Ophelia passed over Mamaroneck, NY, USA, on September 29, 2023, local rivers swelled and ground waters rose. Due to Ophelia Mamaroneck was severely flooded for the second time in two years. In 2021 remnants of Hurricane Ida caused devastating floods that damaged hundreds of homes, businesses, and community spaces in this small town outside New York City. While Ophelia caused less damage, it flooded mostly the same areas as Ida, affecting people's lives again.

When heavy rains pass over Mamaroneck, NY, residents brace themselves and start looking for signs that their homes, streets and business might start flooding. Siting at the confluence of Mamaroneck and Sheldrake rivers, Mamaroneck is continuously under threat of rising waters, when hurricanes, tropical storms or just heavy rains hit the area.

Photographs are part of an ongoing project documenting effects of flooding on Mamaroneck and its residents.
