Private Story
Current refugee crisis in the Congo DRC
The Congo is one of the countries with the highest numbers of IDPs worldwide. Intercommunal fighting in the province of Tanganyika has displaced almost half a million people since July 2016. Many of them are living in informal settlements and have limited access to healthcare, and face alarming shortages of food, water and shelter.
Aid has been deployed but it is insufficient. The mortality rates of children under 5 are those to be expected in the acute phase of an emergency. However, people have been living in these conditions for months.
