Mediterranean Sea. International waters near Libyan coast. August 2nd 2016. A column of smoke emerges from a burning boat in the middle of the sea, about 20 nautical miles away from the Libyan coast. The 129 migrants who travelled aboard it are now safe on board of a rescue vessel, and observes the smoke from the deck. The rubber boats used by migrants are burned or punctured after the rescues in most cases, to avoid that some Libyan fishermen, present in the area during the rescues, can pick up the engines left and sell them back to the smugglers, who make use of them again.

July 31st 2016. 20 nautical miles away from the coast of Libya, a rubber boat with 120 migrants on board is rescued by the crew of Iuventa, the vessel of one of the NGO´s working on rescue missions in the area. Once they are safe, the euphoria takes hold of migrants and a group of Sub-Saharan African men, who had gone to work to Libya years ago and got trapped there when the war started, they begin to celebrate with prayers, hugs and expressions of joy as they are aware that they have left Libya and have survived the waters of the Mediterranean.

The crew of the rescue vessel Iuventa moves the death body of a women who was on board of a rubber boat with 120 people aboard. A large number of the rescued people were unconscious inside. One of the bottles of gasoline had overturned, causing burns to most of the people and intoxication of some of them.

The bodies of two women lifeless rescued by the crew of the rescue vessel Iuventa, rest on one side of the vessel, isolated from the rest of rescued persons. Later, the bodies would be taken to the ship of the Italian coastguard, which are responsible to take them to Italy.

Mediterranean Sea, International waters near Libyan coast. August 3rd 2016. Military from Queen Sofia Spanish frigate transfer the 10 people rescued on August 3rd by the rescue vessel Iuventa. The Spanish Navy, as well as other warships from Ireland, Italy and Germany, collaborate with the recue ships working in the area in some of the rescue missions, and perform transfers of the migrants to Italy.

Alamjan, 21 year old refugee from Afghanistan, has spent the last two months living in the streets of Belgrade, while trying several times to cross the border with Hungary on several occasions unsuccessfully. Since the closure of the Balkan route, the number of people stranded in Serbia has been increasing.

Belgrade, Serbia. August 12th 2016. Pakistani refugees praying in a mosque near the asylum center of Kranjaca, on the outskirts of Belgrade. This mosque was built 10 years ago by Muslim community that resides in the area.

Belgrade, Serbia. August 14th 2016. Two afghan refugees showering with the running water from a broken pipe which is located in the middle of a field full of debris. They have spent the last months living in the streets of Belgrade, and this is the only way they have to clean themselve.
Vushtrri, Kosovo. July 4th 2016. The basketball school in Vushtrri, the second largest in Kosovo, held every July 4th a friendly match between its students to celebrate the Independence Day of the United States. They wear T-shirts that reads "Thank you USA" as gratitude to US intervention in the war between Kosovo and Serbia.

Prishtina, Kosovo. July 4th 2016. Bill Clinton statue in the center of Prishtina, capital of Kosovo. It was installed there as a commemoration of the US intervention in the war in Kosovo and Serbia during his presidency. Since then, the Kosovar society considers him as a symbol of their independence. Every 4th of July, people comes there to conmemorate the Independance Day of the USA, and a new flag of the United States is rised.
