It all developed in steps where my presence became more and more a constant for the girls I went there for. They were survivors of child marriage, domestic abuse, rape and FGM and were participating in a long term training about empowerment, management and family planning with NGOs Forward and Children's Dignity Forum.
Before I interviewed and photographed them, I ran a trauma-informed workshop in photography. The main aim was to empower them with new skills and to allow them to express their emotions using the camera and the group as tools.
You will find polaroid photos with handwritten text, I asked the girls to share their dreams or fears, portraits in their bedrooms, their own photographs taken during the workshop and a video with the story of one of them.
