Topics Spotlight
PachaQueer is a collective that, for ten years, has been working for the rights of trans people, transvestites, LGBTQ+, and dissidents in Ecuador.

Formed by activists La Mota and La Coca who define themselves as “radical activists, gender terrorists” they have created this space as a self-managed hotbed of community education, performance, politics, and Andean worldview. It is also a shelter and transitional help house for trans people in vulnerable situations.

Its activities are based on the human philosophy of covering hunger as a basic need. “People who have not felt hungry will always be uncomfortable with a popular soup kitchen,” says Coca. Community pots are an activity that is based on comprehensive participation between society and trans people, bringing food to at-risk populations or popular festivities.

Over the years, they have participated in artistic and educational meetings inside and outside the country such as Monstra Cabaret - between democracy and other fallacies, performance at the NYU Hemispheric Institute, in Mexico City 2019 or the Second Transborder Festival of Politics and Performance, Berlin 2023 among others.

They have created a space that uses artistic transformation, counterculture, and education as tools to promote bodily emancipation and the liberation of thoughts, helping to build a more inclusive and respectful society.

Story for VII Academy
