Monhegan Island, 12 miles off the coast of Maine, has long been renowned as an Artist's Retreat. Plein Air painting, along with other fine arts, still thrives amongst the cliffs, coastline, spruce forests and village. One formal commercial gallery exists, and that gallery has focused mainly on Monhegan Painters.
There has also been a photographic tradition over the years, represented by photographers such as Ralph Steiner, Bertrand Wentworth and Kosti Ruohomaa . We would like to help re-invigorate the photographic tradition on Monhegan Island, beginning with the Inaugural Monhegan Island Photo Festival 2016.Please spread the word, and consider contributing to our Indiegogo Campaign.
