Penal colony № 56 (Black Eagle) is a high security Russian prison exclusively for murderers, where 260 men, who altogether are responsible for 800 murders, are locked up. There are maniacs, rapists, serial killers, mafia hitmen and the terrorists – most dangerous criminals of Russia.
The camp is located in the heart of the Northern Urals, 7 hours drive from the nearest city.
The prison houses two types of prisoners: 85 lifers are locked 23 hours a day in 1 or 2 man cells in the high security block, as long as 175 former death row prisoners, pardoned by President Yeltsin in 1996, live in the communal block, where they sleep in the dormitories and can eat, socialise and work together.
