Dedicated rock climbers in America often live a life of perpetual travel in order to be in constant proximity to the many crags, or rock faces, they yearn to scale, and for the freedom to follow ideal weather conditions as they shift throughout the country. Some pack their entire lives into cars, trailers, or vans, camping in remote locations, and climbing as much as they can fit into the daylight hours.
In 2015, Luis, a 29-year-old climber from Birmingham, AL embarked on a vanlife year, retrofitting a Chevy Express cargo van into living quarters and travelling to some of the best climbing spots in the American West with his dog, Lola. This series, photographed over the course of a few different weeks on the road, follows Luis through Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Tennessee, documents the beauty, freedom, and struggle of the climber's vanlife, and examines the culture of young American climbers in search of the next big send.
