In a globalized world like the one we're living in there are local realities that still are in effect. The project that I present - Pirenaica - is a glance over a local universe enrolling itself through the life in the mountains. Namely the Catalan Pyrenees, located in the very heart of this small country called Catalunya that is split between the states of Spain and France. The mountains that separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of Europe with it's peaks 10.000 ft. high. Mountains that unite a people on either side of the border.
Ancient traditions like the falles, adwindling population, exploitation of the natural ressources, the stigmatized hunt"¦ A miracle raw, real, transversal and multiple that serves as a thread for identity placed between tradition and future, between projection and posibility or simply: the wish to live the life to the fullness! Stories of a mountain range that is the basic pillar in the collective imagination of a people that is urban in it's majority.
Even though started in the city, the mountains and here specifically the Pyrenees have always been a vital reference for this project. A reference that so many catalans draw. Piece by piece the project grew while I started to live in two villages of this mountain range. A process that I'm still sinking into...
