Evolution of illegal mining at the Yanomami IT
From January to December 2020, an area equivalent to 500 football fields was devastated in the Yanomami Indigenous Land, located in the far north of Brazil, between the states of Amazonas and Roraima. Five hundred hectares of Amazon rainforest were destroyed by illegal mining in indigenous territory. The total deforested area is 2,400 hectares - and in 2020 alone, the increase was 30%.
