Pastor John Monger and the attendees of the International Restoration Church, a Bhutanese Nepali American church, share food and fellowship at their house church in Austin, Texas.
A strong sense of community is customary among Bhutanese Nepali refugees. Refugees are cut off from government support eight months after legal entry into the United States, and are then expected to be financially independent. When two families could not find jobs due to the language barrier, the Bhutanese Nepali American network sought help within their own community as well as outside organizations such as the Chinese community to show mutual aid to these families for a couple of months.
