Katie joined Global Press Journal in 2018. Before joining Global Press, Katie worked as a visual journalist for the Washington Post, Minneapolis Star Tribune, Omaha World-Herald, and a host of other publications, designing and art directing print pages and producing longform narratives for the web and social media.
Along the way, Katie received 2 gold medals from the Society for News Design, an international organization founded to advance the mission of visual journalism, along with 11 silver medals, multiple Awards of Excellence and two full-panel Judges’ Special Recognitions. She also volunteered as editor of SND.org.
While pursuing a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s Ernie Pyle School of Journalism, Katie interned at the Arizona Republic, St. Louis Post Dispatch and St. Petersburg (now Tampa Bay) Times. She was also a Poynter Fellow in 2009.
Katie lives in D.C. with her husband and two cats, Chrissy Teigen and Audrey Hepburn. She is enthusiastic about her love of pizza and jigsaw puzzles.
