Kate Burgess

My roots as a visual communicator are steeped in photojournalism. After graduating from West Point Military Academy and serving seven years as an Army Aviation Officer, I earned an MA of Photography from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communications in 2004. At OU, with my first ever experience of filming and editing video, I passed my master’s degree project on my first informal review. With a unanimous vote, I became the first person the school passed on their informal review. In 2006, I became an Eddie Adams Workshop Alumni. Since graduation, I have maintained a photography business consisting of photojournalism, branding/lifestyle, architecture, portraits, weddings, and product photography, with several clients entrusting me for over 15 years. I did this despite moving locations four times, raising three children, supporting my husband through an MBA program and now a career change, and caring for my mother for five and half of the last seven years.
