Acapulco, from Pacific pearl to the ruins of Hurricane Otis

Luxury yachts marooned, opulent hotels reduced to ruins— Acapulco, once a thriving seaside haven, now lies in the aftermath of Hurricane Otis. The devastating storm, which struck on October 25, claimed over a hundred lives and left many missing in its wake. In the aftermath, the resilient inhabitants, relying on essential provisions from the military, are now working tirelessly to evacuate the remnants of this once-vibrant resort town, which has been grappling with a fifteen-year decline.

Shot on assignment for De Volkskrant and Libération. Acapulco, Mexico, Oct-Nov 2023.
