“How Did We Get Here?” is an independent portrait photography series created by Jalynn Baker. The series explores the journeys of various people who have come to live in the United States from an autobiographical perspective. An audio interview reveals the singular perspective of each person while also illuminating some of the common hopes, dreams, fears, and vulnerabilities that we share as a human race.

As the US continually struggles to create a society where all are welcome, these stories issue a challenge to listen more intently and move toward others with love and empathy.
