As I learn to process motherhood, I am forcing myself to slow down and be present in the journey. This project didn’t start as a project - there was no initial idea or pitch put together. I just started taking photos to document my transition into motherhood and continued to take photos of my daughter, our family, and our experiences, together and individually. The goal is now to continue to be present, work through the emotions as they come, and give my daughter both something to look back on and a way to understand and connect with us. This project has become a modern-day shoe box, designed ultimately for the future when we can all reflect on our time as a family.

At this point Ana Sofia isn't too comfortable with grass so she hangs on to the stroller, curls her toes, and doesn't move much as we sit in the grass at the Dallas Arboretum.

Ana Sofia and Andres at his sister, Anna's grave. Anna had many rare complications when she was born and wasn't actually even supposed to make it to birth, but she ended up living 15 months. Those 15 months impacted Andres' life in many ways and we wanted to carry on her legacy in a very open way. Although different spelling, Ana's Aunt Anna is the main reason we chose to name her such.

We hold hands over Ana Sofia for one of her newborn photos. Technically the timing was too late to be newborn photos, but this was the first chance I had to take them. Parenting is hard. It is beautiful and rewarding, but I struggle with feeling like everything I have to do suffers because nothing gets the attention it deserves. Andres struggles with feeling like he can't provide for his family. Together, they struggle to communicate. All they want is for their daughter to know she is loved and feel supported and know they are there for her, and love her, no matter what. Syracuse USA

Since 2012, Bryn Carr has run Wensleydale Cottage Farm with her husband and three sons. Together, on their 22-acre farm in Homer, New York, they raise animals for meat and eggs, grow fruits and vegetables, and make maple syrup.
