Maternal and child health is a critical concern in many countries around the world, including Hargeisa, Somaliland, where families often face significant challenges in accessing the necessary healthcare services and resources to ensure the health and wellbeing of mothers and their newborns. However, the Mohamed Moge Maternal and Child Health Center, supported by the UNFPA, is making significant strides in addressing this problem. The center provides a wide range of maternal and child health services, including prenatal care, safe delivery services, postnatal care, neonatal care, family planning, nutrition counseling, and immunization programs. The center's facilities, which include a pharmacy and office, ensure that essential medication and resources are available to all, regardless of their income. The MCH and UNFPA's support have significantly improved the health and wellbeing of the community by providing mothers and children with access to quality care. The center has already helped many women in the region, including Amiira Bihi, a 24-year-old mother who received postpartum care at the center just hours after delivering her second child. Midwife Nimao, a graduate of a midwifery school in Hargeisa supported by UNFPA, provided comprehensive maternal and child health care to Amiira, highlighting the quality of the care provided by the MCH.
