American photographer Alissa Everett is committed to using imagery to raise awareness for under-reported human rights abuses and to promote deeper understanding and compassion globally. She has lived and photographed in over 100 countries, and in 2015 moved to Nairobi, Kenya.

She began her career as a conflict zone photographer, providing images for various media outlets from Gaza, Darfur, the DRC and Iraq. Over the past decade, Alissa has focused deeper on issues of women’s rights, education, refugees, and migration for many humanitarian and women’s rights organizations. Her intimate images reflect the realities of every day life in conflict-ridden times and places, and challenge the viewer to relate to her subjects.

In 2007, Alissa created a non-profit organization, Exposing Hope, to capitalize on her photographs to not only raise awareness of human rights issues, but also to raise funds to directly support organizations working in the field. To date, Exposing Hope has raised and allocated over $240,000 with an administration percentage of less than 2%. Exposing Hope has funded several projects including: building safe houses for survivors of sexual violence in the DRC; supporting refugee girls from South Sudan in secondary school; and currently constructing the Exposing Hope Library in Kakuma Refugee Settlement in Northern Kenya.

Her images have appeared internationally through AP, CNN, Reuters, STERN, TIME, the Australian, the Sunday Times of London, and numerous others; her other clients include: the Global Fund for Women, UNICEF, UNHCR, Women's Refugee Commission, World Food Programme, World Economic Forum. She is represented by Getty Images.
