Ecuador has decided to venture into the cannabis industry since September 17, 2019 with the approval of the reform of the Organic Comprehensive Criminal Code. For the use of cannabis for medicinal or therapeutic purposes as well as industrial hemp.

In February 2021, the seven licenses granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) to work in the cannabis industry were issued for the first time. The licenses allow the importation and sale of seeds and cuttings of non-psychoactive cannabis and industrial hemp.
Production, processing of derivatives, marketing, export and scientific studies.

Legal cannabis producers must have appropriate, specific and validated protocols in place to ensure that products derived from the plant are consistent and safe. These measures include mandatory testing for levels of cannabinoids, microbial contaminants, pesticide residues, elemental impurities, and residual solvents in products.

El Ecuador ha decidido incursionar en la industria del cannabis desde el 17 de septiembre del 2019 con la aprobación de la reforma del Código Orgánico Integral Penal. Para el uso del cannabis para fines medicinales o terapéuticos como también de cañamo industrial.

En febrero del 2021, se emitieron por primera vez las siete licencias que otorga el Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería (MAG) para trabajar en la industria del cannabis. Las licencias permiten la importación y venta de semillas y esquejes de cannabis no psicoactivo y cáñamo industrial. La producción, procesamiento de derivados, la comercialización, exportación y estudios científicos.

Los productores de cannabis legal deben contar con protocolos apropiados, específicos y validados para garantizar que los productos derivados de la planta sean consistentes y seguros. Estas medidas incluyen las pruebas obligatorias de los niveles de cannabinoides, contaminantes microbianos, residuos de pesticidas, impurezas elementales y solventes residuales en los productos.

En Ecuador existen varias empresas pioneras que están siguiendo este modelo de negocio, CannAndes, Hemp Ecuador, CBD Solutions SAS.
