A district similar to Linden can be found within many bigger cities all around the world. Those kinds of areas, which mainly have been home to the "working-class", seem to be a bit rough, especially for outsiders. By being in a way closed in themselves, those neighbourhoods established their characteristics in a rather self-contained way.

These areas share a lot of similarities, but still, each one of them has its own history and as many stories, as people inhabiting it. Linden is one exemple for a district, that developed its very own character, atmosphere and identity over the centuries, shaped by the people, who made this place their home.

The reason why I chose Linden as the setting for my project, is my own connection towards the area, since it has been my home for almost ten years. The approach and my angle may be personal, but the outcome can be seen as a rather symbolic and exemplary visualisation of a more general phenomenon. My aim is to create a feeling for a certain social reality- for the people, their relationships and the place, that connects them.
