Summary
An ancient Hawaiian temple Pi'lanihale Heiau in Hana is the largest of the known heiau in Polynesia. The sacred place once stood in the capital of the prosperous Hawaiian kingdom of Maui before the conquest by the Big Island's king Kamehameha with the help of British armaments in 1794. Kamehameha went on uniting all Hawaiian kingdoms and setting up the new capital of Hawaii in 1802 in Lahaina. He married into the Maui Alii (royalty) by taking a wife, Kaahumanu, who was born in Hana
