Private Story
Orpheus XXI
Commissioned by La Saline Royale (Arc-et-Senans)
In 2017 Jordi Savall, Catalan musician, composer and conductor, created in France an ensemble featuring professional musicians who are refugees. This project was intended as a way to help their integration and to transmit their culture. It wants to give a different image of refugees, who bring with them a tremendous human and artistic wealth. Despite all the cultural differences, music is a universal language.
The musicians come from all over the world (Syria, Somalia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Palestine…).
Together they created a multicultural repertoire with traditional music from their own country.
They also trained young musicians -of all nationalities- in public schools, cultural and arts centers.
Different concerts are scheduled throughout Europe.
Orpheus encourages us to reflect on our roots, solidarity, transmission and opens up other possibilities for the future.
This project was developped by La Saline Royale (Arc-et-Senans, France) and received funding from the European Commission, La Fondation Orange and Les Fondations Edmond de Rothschild.
