News Story On January the 1st, 2023, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party (PT) sworn in as new Brazil’s president for a four-year term. Lula defeated far-right Bolsonaro in the October 30, 2022 during the second round of the general election. Since early in the morning, tens of thousands of supporters from all over Brazil gathered in front of the Planalto Palace, the official workplace building of the President of Brazil. Under a scorching sun, they peacefully waited for Lula’s installation and for his inauguration address to the population.
