Ink stained fingers, snow covered fields, other-worldly beasts grazing, bodies, skins, sleeping, falling, a woman spinning, skirt flaring; all fragments which allow us to enter another time and space- temporalities collapsed, we glimpse a universe of folklore, myth and fairytale.
The Journey starts in Latvia. My brother is sitting and waiting for me in the car. Snow is falling silently and within twenty minutes we are already in the middle of nowhere. From the countryside to the city, from home to carnival, true time travel is possible to experience, almost like the moment has been cut from the space and entered into the wrong order of time.
Drawing upon eastern European tales and traditions, the images fuse into one another, creating a body of work, which combines staged fantastical images with shards of the everyday made strange. An elk returns our gaze, a cat becomes a human head, and a drawn woman steps out of her own image.
Returning home, both as a child returning to the family, whilst now also an outsider, the images observe a now almost extinct rural way of life, whilst allowing the viewer an intimacy.
