Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Javier Piñero is a documentary photographer dedicated to communicating social interactions, history, and culture through visual narratives. He specializes in photographic essays, combining the power of text and images to provide an artistic depiction of the communities that surround us. Javier has documented exercises along with the United States Marine Corps, Pride month, and the conservation of indigenous artisan techniques in Puerto Rico.
During his undergraduate years, Javier traveled to Latvia, South Korea, and Norway, where he focused on developing long-format visual narratives under the Public Affairs Division (DIVPA) of the US Marine Corps. While serving, he provided over 400 photographs of the devastations caused by Hurricane Maria in his country.
A graduate of Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, he is currently a graduate student at New York University.
