Domestic abuse has different forms, some of which do not leave marks on the skin but they do on the mind.
Survivors are often not believed by their own family or friends when the abuse is not visible.
Domestic abuse is a gendered crime which is deeply rooted in the societal inequality between women and men. It takes place “because she is a woman and happens disproportionately to women.” (CEDAW, 1992: para. 6)
I run photographic workshops with survivors of domestic abuse (Visual storytelling as a means of healing) to give them a voice and allow them to express themselves with visual storytelling. The courage, strength, and power that these women have shown me is a daily inspiration.
This ongoing work is my personal interpretation of the stories, emotions and thoughts I have listened to for many years.
